Tour Overview
Are you a UK, US, or European resident looking for a really amazing trip to Leh Ladakh in India? Look no further. The Cultural Peaks of Ladakh is an amazing 9-day private tour that takes you deep into the core of the Indian Himalayas, where spectacular mountain scenery, historic Buddhist monasteries, and age-old customs combine to create an experience unlike anything else on earth. Your adventure starts in Delhi, India's energetic and historic capital, before you take a flight to Leh—Ladakh, one of the highest-altitude cities in the world and the entrance to Leh Ladakh. You explore the magnificent monasteries that surround Leh—including the grand Stok Palace, the historic Shey Monastery, the mountaintop Thiksey Gompa, and the legendary Hemis Monastery—after a day of gentle acclimatisation, which just means giving your body time to adjust to the thin mountain air. Your journey then leads you off the beaten track and into the wild and amazing scenery that makes Ladakh so unique. Drive to Likir and see the famous Likir Monastery, with its iconic 75-foot golden Maitreya Buddha statue. From Likir to Yangthang, start a modest hike along a path that meanders through beautiful Ladakhi towns, across mountain streams and verdant meadows, with spectacular Himalayan vistas at every curve. Keep hiking from Yangthang to Temisgam, traversing towering mountain passes, wandering through tranquil juniper woods, and passing antique towns. A beautiful drive takes you next to the famous Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh's oldest and most dramatically located monasteries, set high on a rocky outcrop encircled by a bizarre, lunar-like environment that feels totally alien.
At last, walk to the lovely community of Wanla before driving to Alchi, the location of Ladakh's oldest monastery complex, noted worldwide for its remarkable Indo-Kashmiri design frescoes and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your trip ends with a beautiful flight back to Delhi after spending one last night resting in Leh, bringing with you memories of Ladakh's wild beauty and profound spiritual peace that will last a lifetime.
For culture enthusiasts, adventure travellers, and anybody else who wants to see the untouched beauty, remote pathways, and ancient monasteries of this remarkable Himalayan country, this trip is ideal.
