On arrival at Kolkata Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, after completing customs, immigration formalities, and baggage collection, as you exit the arrival terminal, you will be warmly welcomed by an India Tours & Travels executive holding a placard with your name. You will then be assisted with your transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and begin your drive to Dhenkanal (Approx. 1.5 to 2 hrs. drive), a town nestled amidst forested hills and tribal hamlets. En route, observe the gradual shift from urban landscapes to the peaceful countryside, dotted with temples, farms, and rural settlements. On arrival in Dhenkanal, check in to your heritage homestay and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Upon arrival, begin your heritage exploration with a visit to the iconic Lingaraj Temple (entry though is restricted for foreigners; visit would be from the outside), an 11th-century masterpiece dedicated to Lord Shiva. Towering at over 180 feet, this majestic structure is one of the finest examples of Kalinga architecture, with intricate carvings, towering spires, and a bustling complex that offers a glimpse into the deeply spiritual life of the city. Nestled at the foothills of the Niyamgiri Hills, this bustling market comes alive as the Dongria Kondh tribes, clad in their traditional attire and colourful jewellery, descend from the hills carrying forest produce, handcrafted tools, wild honey, spices, and fruits. It’s a vivid, unfiltered glimpse into the rhythms of tribal life — filled with bartering, social exchange, and deep-rooted customs. Take time to observe the unique facial tattoos, traditional hairstyles, and jewellery that distinguish the Dongria from other communities, and interact respectfully with the locals to learn about their animist beliefs and sustainable way of life. After immersing yourself in the tribal marketplace, continue your journey towards Jeypore (Approx. 06 to 07 hrs. drive). Today, embark on a full-day excursion to the weekly tribal market at Onukudelli, a remote and vibrant gathering deep in the Eastern Ghats, held every Thursday only. This is one of the most authentic tribal markets in India, where multiple indigenous communities from the surrounding hills come together to trade and socialize. The highlight of the day is witnessing the fiercely independent Bonda tribe, known for their distinctive silver jewellery, bead necklaces, and shaved heads adorned with colourful scarves. These highland tribals, considered one of the most primitive in India, rarely descend from their mountain settlements except for market day. Also present are the Gadaba and Didayi tribes, each with their own unique attire, languages, and traditions. The Gadabas, often seen in vibrant sarees and heavy metal ornaments, are known for their traditional dance forms, while the Didayis are recognized by their forest-based lifestyle and handmade items.
