From this tranquil perch, we descend steeply along a stone-paved trail that winds down to the banks of the Kimron Khola—a small river whose clear waters cut through the valley. The descent requires careful footing but offers plenty of chances to admire the surrounding forest and terraced farmlands. Crossing the riverbed, the trail transitions into a gradual but steady climb through a mix of shaded forests, open meadows, and scattered farmhouses. The sounds of rustling leaves and distant birdcalls accompany us as we ascend. Occasional breaks in the trees reveal glimpses of the snow-covered peaks in the distance. We begin with a gentle ascent through a dense forest of bamboo, rhododendron, and oak, where the fresh mountain air and the quiet rustling of trees set a serene tone for the morning. As we gain elevation, the forest begins to thin, and the vegetation gradually gives way to more alpine landscapes. We pass through Himalayan Hotel and continue to Hinku Cave, a rocky overhang once used as a temporary shelter by early mountaineers. From here, the trail climbs steadily with breathtaking views of the Modi Khola Valley below and glimpses of snow-covered peaks growing closer with every step. The air becomes noticeably thinner as we reach Deurali, a perfect spot for a short rest and snack break while soaking in the incredible surroundings. The final stretch to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is more exposed, with dramatic mountain scenery all around. As we approach MBC, the iconic peak of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) stands in awe-inspiring proximity, its sharp, twin summits gleaming in the afternoon light. Nestled in a wide, open valley at 3,700 meters, Machhapuchhre Base Camp offers a panoramic amphitheater of peaks including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and Gangapurna. The sense of arrival here is extraordinary—a mix of quiet achievement and humbling grandeur. We settle into our lodge for the night, surrounded by the towering guardians of the Himalayas.
