Welcome to Mumbai (By International Flight)

On arrival at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, following customs, immigration formalities and baggage collection, as you exit the arrival terminal building, you will be welcomed by India Tours & Travels executive holding a placard in your name to greet you. Thereafter, you will be assisted with a transfer to your hotel and check-in.
Mumbai, the city never sleeps is the phrase that is always associated with this city. Opulence, excitement, and the fast-paced nature of the city make it one of a kind. It is also recognized as the entertainment and economic capital of India. The cosmopolitan nature of the city adds to the liveliness of the waterfront metropolis. From rock-cut temples hailing from bygone ages to Victorian architecture, Mumbai has it all. The Indian Film industry, popularly known as Bollywood also has its base here.

Day 2

Explore the sites of Mumbai.

After breakfast, proceed for a guided sightseeing tour of Mumbai. Begin with Gateway of India, situated at the border of the Arabian Sea, The Gateway of India is often recognized as the commencement point for tourists in the city. A host of playful pigeons can be spotted in the courtyard against the scenery of the sea. Personal yachts can also be booked here to experience the beauty of the skyline. Elephanta rock-cut caves (closed on Monday), carved out about the mid-5th and 6th centuries AD. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the greenery and the immaculate sculptures in the caves give an impression of what a life away from the main city looks like. Mango, tamarind, and palm trees make the region an attractive picnic spot as well. The intricate internal carvings of the caves never fail to mesmerize visitors. Prince of Wales Museum (closed on Monday) to get a sneak peek into the past other than visiting a museum. The establishment holds several art, artefacts, and antiquities along with its relatively rare natural history specimens. Excavated evidence from Japan, China and several other European countries can also be found in the museum. Gandhi Memorial Museum (Mani Bhavan), a tranquil museum reminiscing the philosophy of M. K. Gandhi’s life, Mani Bhavan provides an accessible and informative way of understanding the man behind the idea of Satyagraha, his contribution to the Indian National Movement. Conclude your trip with a visit to Dhobi Ghat, World’s largest open-air laundry, The dhobi, a traditional laundry man who collects household filthy linen, washes, irons, and delivers to their doorstep for a little fee, is a distinctive characteristic of Mumbai. Over 200 dhobis and their families labour together in what has historically been a hereditary profession. Return to hotel and spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3

Train to Aurangabad and visit to Ellora Caves
By Train: Departure Mumbai at 0530 Hrs / Arrival Aurangabad at 1305 Hrs or similar

Early in the morning, as per the above mentioned train schedule, you will be assisted with a departure transfer to Mumbai railway station (with a packed breakfast) to board the train to Aurangabad, a city steeped in history and the gateway to some of India's most remarkable heritage sites. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and refresh before setting out for a half-day exploration of Ellora Caves (closed on Tuesday), a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the greatest rock-cut cave complexes in the world. Carved between the 6th and 10th centuries, the 34 caves of Ellora represent a stunning confluence of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions. The highlight is the Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), an awe-inspiring monolithic structure dedicated to Lord Shiva, carved entirely from a single rock. Marvel at its intricate sculptures, towering pillars, and grand courtyards, a true testament to ancient Indian craftsmanship. After exploring the caves, return to Aurangabad and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 4

Aurangabad to Burhanpur visiting Ajanta Caves enroute

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Burhanpur (Approx. 05 to 06 hrs. drive), with a fascinating stop at the world-renowned Ajanta Caves (closed on Monday), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the 2nd century BCE to the 6th century CE, these rock-cut Buddhist caves are adorned with exquisite murals and frescoes that depict the life of Buddha and Jataka tales. Wander through the 29 caves, marvelling at the breathtaking craftsmanship, including the famous "Sleeping Buddha" statue and the intricate Vihara (monastic halls) and Chaitya (prayer halls). After exploring Ajanta, continue your journey to Burhanpur, a city rich in Mughal history and architectural grandeur. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening exploring the town or relaxing.

Day 5

Burhanpur to Maheshwar visiting Omkareshwar enroute

Start the day with an early morning exploration of Burhanpur’s historical gems. Visit the Jama Masjid, an architectural marvel with grand arches and intricately designed minarets. Next, head to the Asirgarh Fort, a formidable fortress perched atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Known as the "Gateway to the Deccan," this fort has played a crucial role in India’s history. Continue to the Zenana Hammam, a beautifully designed royal bathhouse with exquisite frescoes, once used by Mughal queens. After sightseeing, begin your drive to Maheshwar, stopping en route at the sacred town of Omkareshwar. Visit the revered Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on the Mandhata Island in the Narmada River. Also, explore the Siddhanath Temple, an architectural masterpiece known for its intricately carved stone elephant frieze. Continue your journey to Maheshwar, a town known for its riverside ghats, temples, and handwoven textiles. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the evening.

Day 6

Maheshwar – Full day excursion to Mandu

After breakfast, embark on a full-day excursion to Mandu, the ancient fortified city of joy, known for its stunning Afghan architecture, romantic legends, and breathtaking hilltop views. Perched on a plateau overlooking the Narmada Valley, Mandu is a treasure trove of history and architectural marvels. Begin your exploration with the Jahaz Mahal (Ship Palace), a stunning structure built between two lakes, creating the illusion of a floating palace. Visit the Hindola Mahal (Swinging Palace), known for its sloping walls and grand halls, once used for royal gatherings. Continue to Rani Roopmati Pavilion, a scenic retreat offering panoramic views of the valley and Baz Bahadur’s Palace, steeped in the legendary romance of the poet-king and his queen. Discover the exquisite Jama Masjid, inspired by the great mosques of Delhi, and the Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, India’s first marble mausoleum that served as an inspiration for the Taj Mahal. Explore the Rewa Kund, a sacred reservoir with an enchanting love story, before driving back to Maheshwar in the evening.

Day 7

Travel to Bhopal and relax

After a leisurely breakfast, check-out and depart for Bhopal (Approx. 05 to 06 hrs. drive), a city that beautifully blends its regal past with modern charm. The drive takes you through the heart of Madhya Pradesh, offering scenic countryside views along the way. Upon arrival in Bhopal, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. You can relax or explore the city at your own pace—perhaps take a serene walk along the Upper Lake, visit the local bazaars, or soak in the old-world charm of Bhopal’s historic quarters.

Day 8

Excursion to Sanchi & Udayagiri Caves and sightseeing of Bhopal

Start the day early with a half-day excursion to Sanchi, home to the Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in India. Built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, the stupa is renowned for its beautifully carved gateways depicting scenes from Buddha’s life. Explore the Buddhist monasteries, temples, and Ashokan pillar, which provide deep insights into ancient Indian art and architecture. Next, visit the Udayagiri Caves, a fascinating complex of rock-cut Hindu and Jain caves dating back to the Gupta period (4th–5th century CE). Sightseeing of Khajuraho

After breakfast, set out to explore the mesmerizing Khajuraho Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its exquisite sculptures and intricate carvings, depicting divine deities, celestial nymphs, and scenes of everyday life. Begin with the Western Group of Temples, the most iconic and well-preserved cluster. Visit the magnificent Kandariya Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and renowned for its elaborate carvings. Explore the Lakshmana Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the Chitragupta Temple, dedicated to the Sun God. Don't miss the Vishwanath Temple and Devi Jagdambi Temple, showcasing intricate sculptures that reflect the artistry of the Chandela dynasty (10th–12th century CE). Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and relax before heading out for an afternoon of exploration. Start with the Jehangir Mahal, an architectural masterpiece built in honor of Emperor Jahangir, offering stunning views of the Betwa River. Next, visit the Raja Mahal, the former palace of the Bundela kings, adorned with beautiful mural paintings and ornate carvings. Continue to the Ram Raja Temple, the only temple in India where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and unwind before heading out for an afternoon exploration. Visit the iconic Gwalior Fort, an architectural marvel that dominates the city’s skyline. Perched atop a rocky hill, this majestic fort has witnessed centuries of history and is often referred to as the “Gibraltar of India.” Explore its magnificent palaces, including the Man Singh Palace, known for its colourful, blue-tiled façade, intricate latticework, and underground chambers. Visit the Sas Bahu Temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the Teli Ka Mandir, a stunning blend of Dravidian and North Indian architectural styles. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Gwalior city from the fort’s ramparts before returning to your hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 13

Sigthseeign of Gwalior & travel to Agra

After breakfast, visit the Jai Vilas Palace Museum (closed on Monday), a grand 19th-century palace built by Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia. This magnificent structure showcases a fusion of European, Mughal, and Hindu architectural styles and offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Scindia dynasty. Explore its lavishly decorated halls, including the Durbar Hall, adorned with gold furnishings and the world’s largest chandeliers, as well as an impressive collection of artifacts, royal carriages, and period furniture. After the museum visit, embark on a scenic drive to Agra (Approx. 04 hrs. drive), home to the iconic Taj Mahal. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and relax for the evening, preparing for an exciting exploration of Agra the next day.

Day 14

See the Taj Mahal & other Mughal treasures

Start your day by meeting your local English-speaking guide in the hotel lobby and embark on a memorable sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal (closed on Friday). This architectural masterpiece, known as one of the seven wonders of the world, is a symbol of Mughal architecture. It took seventeen years to build and is adorned with intricate inlay work. As you witness the sunrise over this stunning monument, you will be awestruck by its beauty and grandeur (please note that a sunrise visit is subject to weather conditions). Afterwards, return to the hotel for a delicious breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead. Once you're ready, continue your exploration with a visit to Agra Fort. Originally built as a military structure, this semi-circular fort is replete with underground structures and intricate mazes that offer insight into its historical significance. Next on our itinerary is Baby Taj, also known as Itimad-ud-Daulah. This magnificent mausoleum is often referred to as the “jewel box” due to its exquisite design and craftsmanship. Built entirely out of white marble, it stands out from other monuments in Agra. To conclude our sightseeing tour on a sweet note, we'll visit a local sweet shop where you can taste Agra's famous petha—a North Indian candy made from white pumpkin. This translucent candy comes in various flavours and variations that will delight your taste buds. Return to your hotel for an evening of relaxation or explore more of what this vibrant city has to offer at night.
