Day 1

Welcome to Delhi (By International Flight)

On arrival at DELHI Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3), following customs, immigration formalities and baggage collection, as you exit the arrival terminal building, you will be welcomed by India Tours & Travels executive holding a placard in your name to greet you. After that, you will be assisted with a transfer to your hotel and check-in.
Delhi, India’s capital territory, is also known for its people with happy hearts and dynamic nature. Delhi is a city where ancient and modern blend seamlessly together and stands as one of the fastest developing cities in the world. The thriving cosmopolitan metro has a long history of empire successions from Delhi Sultanate to Mughals to British and still is the political capital of the nation.

Day 2

Fly to Leh
By Flight: Departure Delhi at 07:00 Hrs / Arrival Leh at 08:30 Hrs or similar.

Early in the morning, as per the above-mentioned flight, you will be assisted with a departure transfer to Delhi domestic airport to board the flight to Leh, well-known for its high elevations and several passes that connect various sites in this tough terrain. Ladakh is also known as the world’s coldest desert. It is dominated by dramatic landscapes, Stunning Gompas (Tibetan Buddhist monasteries), flapping prayer flags and whitewashed stupas. On arrival at Leh airport, you will be assisted with a transfer to your hotel and check-in and spend the rest of the day at leisure to browse the bazaar (markets) of Leh. Get a wide range of fairly cost items, such as apparel and accessories. Pashmina shawls, meditation wheels, Kashmiri rugs, apricot jam, Tibetan jewellery, etc.

The Magnificent Monasteries around Leh

Today, we embark on a breathtaking adventure to explore some of the most exquisite monasteries in the Leh region. Begin your journey at Stok Palace, the royal residence of the Namgyal dynasty, which houses a museum showcasing a rich collection of artifacts, royal attire, and Buddhist art. After exploring the palace, continue to the Shey Monastery, founded in the 17th century, which was once the summer residence of Ladakh nobility. The monastery is renowned for its impressive Shakyamuni Buddha statue, a stunning sight to behold. As you explore the monastery, take in the serene surroundings and admire the intricate architecture that blends seamlessly with the landscape. Next, head to Thiksey Gompa, an important emblem of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. This magnificent monastery is perched on a mountaintop at an elevation of 3,600 meters, offering spectacular vistas of the Indus River valley and the majestic snow- capped mountains. The peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal place for meditation and reflection. Conclude your journey with a visit to Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, known for its annual festival and vast collection of ancient relics and statues. After a fulfilling day, return to your hotel in Leh, where you can spend the rest of the evening at your leisure, whether relaxing, savouring local cuisine, or exploring the charming town of Leh. Day 5

Drive to Likir and commence the trek to Yangthang.

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, start your day with a scenic drive to Likir (Approx. 1 hr. drive), a charming village known for its serene landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Upon arrival, visit the famous Likir Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most significant Buddhist monasteries. Admire the 75-ft Maitreya Buddha statue, an iconic golden structure that stands majestically against the backdrop of the Himalayas. Explore the monastery’s ancient murals, prayer halls, and sacred relics that provide insight into Ladakh’s deep-rooted Buddhist traditions. Later, begin the moderate trek to Yangthang (Approx. 03 to 04 hrs walk/trek), through scenic mountain trails, crossing small streams and lush valleys. Walk through picturesque villages, where you’ll get a glimpse of traditional Ladakhi life and architecture. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, rugged cliffs, and vast open landscapes, making it a perfect mix of adventure and cultural immersion. Day 6

Trek from Yangthang to Temisgam (Approx. 04 to 05 hrs. trek/walk)

The day starts with an easy, flat walk for about half an hour, gradually leading to an ascent towards Sarmangchen La Pass (Approx. 3,880 m). As we make our way up, the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains unfold. Upon reaching the pass, we pause to soak in the stunning scenery before making a gentle descent to the village of Hemis Shukpachen (Approx 3,660 m), known for its lush juniper groves, which hold deep religious significance as the juniper is traditionally burned as an offering to local deities. As we pass through the village, we encounter numerous chortens and prayer flags, reflecting the rich Buddhist heritage of the region. From here, the trail continues on a flat path for about an hour, followed by a short descent before we begin a steady climb towards Metak La Pass (Approx. 3,830 m). The ascent is rewarding, offering expansive views of the rugged Ladakhi terrain. From the top, we begin our descent towards Ang village, which is part of Temisgam. This village is known for its verdant fields, apricot orchards, and traditional Ladakhi homes, offering a glimpse into the peaceful rural life of the region. This trek is a blend of scenic landscapes, cultural encounters, and spiritual landmarks, making it a truly enriching experience in the heart of Ladakh.

Day 7

A scenic drive from Temisgam to Lamayuru

After breakfast, we begin our walk towards Temisgam village, following a trail carved into vibrant ocher, pink, and purple-hued rock formations. These striking landscapes serve as a reminder of the region’s ancient geological history, dating back over fifty million years, when the Himalayas emerged from the waters of the prehistoric Tethys Sea. Upon reaching Temisgam, we visit its historic monastery, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks to the north of the Indus Valley. This serene setting provides an opportunity to reflect on the deep-rooted Buddhist traditions of Ladakh. From here, we continue our journey by vehicle, following a beautiful winding road to Lamayuru (Approx. 01 hr. drive). The drive is spectacular, passing through dramatic mountain landscapes and showcasing Ladakh’s rugged beauty. Upon arrival in Lamayuru, we enjoy a traditional lunch before setting out to explore the famed Lamayuru Monastery, which dates to the 11th century. Perched atop a dramatic rocky outcrop overlooking the village, the monastery is home to ancient temples, stunning frescoes, and sacred artifacts.

Day 8

Trek from Lamayuru to Wanla & Drive to Alchi

Today promises to be one of the most visually stunning hikes (Approx. 03 to 04 hrs. trek until Wanla), as the changing daylight transforms the hues of the surrounding rock formations. The striking contrast between the colourful mountains and the lush greenery of Lamayuru village creates a breathtaking landscape. The journey begins with an ascent to Prinkiti La Pass (Approx. 3,700 m), offering panoramic views of the rugged Ladakhi terrain. After taking a well-deserved rest at the pass, we start our descent towards Wanla village, passing through dramatic gorges and serene trails that showcase the raw beauty of Ladakh. Upon reaching Wanla, we take a scenic drive to Alchi (Approx. 1.5 hrs. drive), arriving in the afternoon and check-in. Later after some rest, explore the sacred site of Alchi, which consists of four ancient temples, some dating back to the 11th century. These temples are renowned for their Indo-Kashmiri style frescoes, which depict intricate Buddhist iconography and historical narratives. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Alchi Monastery stands as a testament to Ladakh’s rich artistic and spiritual legacy.

Day 9

Return to Leh

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive back to Leh (Approx. 01 to 02 hrs. drive), passing through the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh. The journey takes us along the Indus River, with stunning views of rugged mountains, picturesque villages, and ancient monasteries dotting the route. On arrival in Leh, take advantage of the rest of your day at leisure. You can choose to relax or explore the charming town on foot. Stroll through bustling markets, interact with friendly locals, or simply immerse yourself in the peaceful vibes that surround this picturesque town.
