Yes, everyone needs to apply the Visa before travelling or entering Sri Lanka. Getting Sri Lankan Tourist Visa is easy as it is possible to apply online. It is known as ETA – Electronic Travel Authorization.

Citizens from the below mentioned countries can get a Sri Lankan Visa free of charge on arrival at the port of entry: Singapore Citizens can geta a visa on arrival for 30 days, extendable to 150 days. Maldives Citizens can geta a visa on arrival for 30 days, extendable to 150 days. Seychelles Citizens can geta a visa on arrival for 60 days, extendable to 90 days in a single year.


Your passport must be valid for at least another six months starting from the day you enter Sri Lanka.

You can submit your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) application directly on Immigration Department of Sri Lanka official website completing the following:

Click on ‘Apply’ button and complete Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) application form by filling the requested information.

Pay the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) processing fees using valid card such as Credit or debit card and complete the application. Once your application and payment has been submitted successfully, you will get a reference number and you will need to wait for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to process. It usually takes approx. 01 to 02 hrs. (Kindly note: Only Master, Visa and American Express cards are accepted to make the payment).

You will receive the outcome of your application through email, or you can check the status visiting the same official website using the confirmation number you receive after submitting the application.

It is highly advisable to keep a copy of Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) approval with you to be produced at the port of entry in Sri Lanka.

In case, a referral notice is served for your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), you need to contact Immigration Department where your Visa officer shall advise you of the additional requirements to approve your application.


Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is valid up to 30 days only. If someone need, it can be extended once you are in Sri Lanka for up to six months maximum.

A Sri Lankan embassy visa is valid for up to 3 months only for a single, double, or multiple entry.

Transit visa is issued for 2 days.

The 05-year tourist visa must be applied 120 days in advance from proposed date of travel.
